The Cut of a Diamond
A diamond's cut refers to its proportion.
An ideal cut diamond gives the maximum fire and brilliance to a
diamond. Ideal cut is another name for Class 1 cut. Both Class1 and
Class 2 diamond cuts are considered as good cuts, meaning the stones are
well proportion
Proportion and beauty of a diamond
The proportion of a diamond determines its brilliance and the fire of
a diamond. The optimum balance of fire and brilliance is obtained when
the diamond is cut to its perfect proportions.
An ideal cut diamond is worth far more than one that is poorly cut.
3 points to a great cut
Diamond crown
The diamond crown is the flat top of the diamond (the table) and the
facets below it.
This is where the diamond splits the white light into colored light,
giving the diamond its fire.
Diamond Girdle
This is the widest part of the diamond. it is a thin, unpolished band
that protects the edge of the diamond from chipping. It should be
invisible to the naked eye. If you can see it without
magnification (10X magnification loupe) then, it is too thick. Through
the loupe, it should appear as a frosted line. If you can't even see it
through the loupe, it is too thin and cannot protect the diamond well
enough.
Diamond Pavilion
This is where the light is reflected back to your eyes, giving the
diamond its brilliance. When the proportion is perfect, like as in an
ideal cut diamond, the diamond has the maximum sparkle possible.
